Great Investor Stocks

This week's edition of Wealthtrack is particularly appropriate coming into the holidays as she interviews Bill Miller, head of Miller Value Partners.  He discusses his own holdings, particularly in bitcoin (a subject that remains a complete mystery to me) but also focusing on the current market in general and the  values he's finding in it.  Tomorrow, I will present an article from U.S. News Invested about the best stocks to be buying for 2022.  Enjoy the rest of the weekend.  It's going to be sunny tomorrow.

Dear WEALTHTRACK Subscriber,

Over the years we have tapped the wisdom of great investors. One of them is Bill Miller III, who is marking his 40th year in the investment business and rarely does television interviews.

Miller is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Miller Value Partners, a firm he founded in 1999 while working at Legg Mason, but took over completely in 2017. Miller holds the unrivaled mutual fund record of beating the S&P 500 for 15 consecutive years, which he accomplished from 1991-2005 with the Legg Mason Capital Management Value Trust Fund.

His flagship Miller Opportunity Trust Fund, which he created in 1999 has two and a half billion in assets and has beaten the S&P since inception, including in the vast majority of years since he turned bullish at the market’s bottom in 2009. For more than a decade Miller has shared management duties with Samantha McLemore who joined the fund as Assistant Portfolio Manager in 2008 and was promoted to Co-Portfolio Manager status in 2014.

Miller recently told his shareholders that after four decades he will no longer be writing the fund’s quarterly letter, saying: “Over the past decade or so my letters have been focused mostly on saying the same thing: we are in a bull market that began in March of 2009 and continues, accompanied by the typical and inevitable pullbacks and corrections.”

McLemore and Bill Miller IV, Portfolio Manager for the firm’s fixed income strategy will be the letter’s authors from now on.

The change doesn't mean Miller is retiring from sharing his views when he sees fit or retiring from active management. Far from it! In fact he joins us this week to discuss his current views on the market and a number of the stocks in his Opportunity portfolios. In another edition he will be discussing what he is doing in his personal portfolio where he can make more concentrated investments. Here’s the headline for that discussion: Miller has gone really big on bitcoin. Half of his personal net worth is now in the cryptocurrency and a few related investments.

But this week we will focus on the stock market and the values he is finding in it.

If you miss the show on public television, you can watch it on our website over the weekend. You can also find the WEALTHTRACK podcast on Stitcher and SoundCloud as well as iTunes and Spotify.

Thank you so much for spending time with us as we head into the heart of the holiday season. Have a Merry Christmas and make the week ahead a healthy, profitable and productive one.

Best regards,

Consuelo
