Making It On Wall Street + Niall Ferguson

As we approach the holiday, this week's edition of WealthTrack seems particularly appropriate. The first half of the program focuses on the rare breed (11%) of Wall Street managers who are women and how they got there. The second half provides some historical perspective as the first of a 2-part interview with Niall Ferguson who has authored 16 books on money and investing, focusing on what history has to teach us about geopolitical and economic risks covering many centuries and culminating in the current pandemic crisis.  Enjoy the weekend.

Dear WEALTHTRACK Subscriber,
On our website this week you’ll find part two of a podcast series with three successful women portfolio managers who discuss what it takes to succeed in money management, including their best and worst decisions and crucial career advice. In part one we discussed the role their higher education choices have made to their careers and their goals and professional attitudes.
The panelists are: Yana Barton, Portfolio Manager and Director of Specialty Solutions at Eaton Vance; Ellen Lee, Fundamental Portfolio Manager at Causeway Capital Management; and Sonali Pier, Portfolio Manager at PIMCO
They are a rare breed. Only 11% of U.S. portfolio managers are women, a representation that basically hasn’t changed in years.
Our conversation is part of a “Tearing Down the Pink Wall” webinar series I am moderating for the award-winning philanthropy, WISE, standing for Women Investing in Security and Education. You can find details on WEALTHTRACK.com.
This is the final week of Public Television’s holiday fundraising season. Because WEALTHTRACK will be preempted with pledge programming on many stations we are repeating one episode of a recent rare and very popular, two-part interview with brilliant historian and best-selling author Niall Ferguson.
His focus is what history has to teach us about what he identifies as significant geopolitical and economic risks and steps to take to protect ourselves against them.

Ferguson is a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, and the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard.
He is also the author of 16 books, many of them bestsellers. Among them The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of the World, now in its 10th edition, which he also produced as an award-winning PBS series
His most recent book is, “Doom: The Politics of Catastrophe”, which analyzes how societies have reacted to crises over the centuries including modern governments’ handling of Covid-19.
A decade ago Ferguson branched out into the investment arena as founder and managing director of Greenmantle, an advisory firm offering historical perspective and research services to a select group of clients, including many top hedge fund and investment firms.
His thesis is that applying the lessons of history to contemporary events can result in better investment outcomes.
If you miss the show on public television, you can watch it on our website.  You can also find the WEALTHTRACK podcast on Stitcher and SoundCloud as well as iTunes and Spotify.
Please also explore our YouTube channel, where you can watch this show along with Niall Ferguson’s previous interviews. You’ll find our extensive archive of interviews with financial thought leaders and great investors there as well.
Have a great weekend, and make the week ahead a healthy, profitable and productive one!
Best regards,
Consuelo
