Future Market Pain

Building on the last few days of panic selling with the market consensus now shifting, rightly or wrongly, toward recession -- this week's WealthTrack follows this topic with a discussion of the pain the future may or may not bring to investors.  Enjoy the weekend.

FUTURE MARKET PAIN

December 15, 2022

Dear WEALTHTRACK Subscriber,
A major theme for WEALTHTRACK in 2022, and will be in 2023, is what a difference a year makes.
 - We’ve gone from lower for longer inflation to stunning acceleration,
 - Historically lower for longer interest rates to rapidly increasing ones,
 - History-making monetary stimulus to rapid withdrawal, and
 - Liquidity-driven speculation in financial assets to risk aversion.
With the exception of energy stocks, the market has taken a hit pretty much across the board.
What further impact will these mega changes have on the economy and markets, and what will they mean for investors?
As we have many times in the past, we reached out to Jason Trennert, a leading investment strategist with a big picture view. Trennert is a financial thought leader, Co-Founder, Chairman, CEO and Chief Investment Strategist of Strategas Research Partners, a leading provider of economic, market and policy research. Strategas, a Baird Company, has been voted the top Macro-only independent research firm by Institutional Investor for six years in a row.  It traditionally provides asset management in separate accounts for institutions and high net-worth individuals, but recently introduced two of its proprietary theme portfolios in ETFs. One is the Strategas Macro Thematic Opportunities ETF (SAMT) and the other, the Strategas Global Policy Opportunities ETF (SAGP).
Trennert and the Strategas team turned uncharacteristically bearish early this year when they realized how seriously the Fed was going to treat the rapid rise in inflation. (In yesterday's press conference following the FOMC meeting, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell gave every indication the Fed remains committed to its anti-inflation policies.)
In this weekend’s episode, Trennert explains the ongoing pressures on the economy and markets and why there is more market pain ahead. He also shares what he is doing with his personal portfolio. In our EXTRA feature, just in time for the holidays, Trennert will share two of his favorite investment books with us.
If you miss the show on public television, you can watch it on our website over the weekend, along with our past programs and our guests’ One Investment recommendations.  You can also find the WEALTHTRACK podcast on Stitcher and SoundCloud as well as iTunes and Spotify.
