The Broker Who Saved America

I've been looking all day for some inspirational Revolutionary War themed 4th of July article and finally found a wonderful one in, of all places, Barry Ritholtz's financial blog.  Here is the fascinating account of an untold tale in American history -- the Jewish financier who found the money for Washington and the Continental Congress to fight the revolution.  He was a financial genius ... and more!  His escapades and trickery against the British would make a good movie.  So in honor of Independence Day, I submit "The Broker Who Saved America."

Elsewhere in the world, Sunday is the big referendum in Greece.  Today's polls still have it at a dead-heat.  Here's a pretty good article that sums up the whole situation in Athens.  And, as an added bonus, some terrific video of fireworks as filmed from a drone.  This is really what you call up close and personal, the explosives almost knock the camera out of the sky.

And just to show that I'm not the only finance guy in the world who's sort of hoping Greece wins tomorrow, Barry Ritholtz today published the following graphic on his "Weekend Reads" post which sort of says it all.  If he was negotiating for the Greeks, this is how he would do it.  Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th!
