The market is closed for MLK Day so I thought I would honor the occasion with a bit of trivia that was brought to my attention for the first time this morning. It seems that MLK's birth name was not Martin at all, but Michael, as was his father's. But, in 1934, when King Sr. took a trip to Germany for the worldwide Baptist convention, he became so impressed with and enamored by what he learned about Martin Luther, the leader of the Protestant Reformation, that he legally changed his name -- and his son's -- to Martin Luther King.
