American investors have had an on-again off-again love affair with stocks ever since they started trading under a buttonwood tree on Wall Street in 1792. Right now the affair has cooled, perhaps the result of a terrible year for equities in 2022, along with just about every other asset class, and the fact that for the first time in years yields on fixed income investments are rising and are offering some competition. 

But this week’s guest says stocks have gotten a bum rap and are, in fact, an excellent long-term investment and she has the research to prove it. She is influential strategist Savita Subramanian, the Head of U.S. Equity and Quantitative Strategy at BofA Global Research. Her responsibilities include U.S. sector allocations for equities, forecasts for the S&P 500 and other major U.S. indices, quantitative equity strategy and global ESG research.  She is, in fact, the Head of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Research at the firm and the first in that position. 

Subramanian has been named a top-ranked analyst by Institutional Investor for the last ten years and has been named to Barron’s list of the 100 Most Influential Women in U.S. Finance for the past 3 years.

In part 2 of our interview with Subramanian she focuses on some of the biggest trends moving the markets and explains why we really should own stocks for the long term.
