This week we are celebrating active management with a star portfolio manager who Morningstar considers to be one of the best in the business, T. Rowe Price’s David Giroux. 

Giroux is Chief Investment Officer and Head of Investment Strategy for T. Rowe Price Investment Management. He has been the Portfolio Manager of the five-star, gold-rated T. Rowe Price Capital Appreciation Fund since 2006. As Morningstar puts it: His “nimble, contrarian approach has delivered topnotch returns for its investors.”

Giroux is a five-time nominee and two-time winner of Morningstar’s Manager of the Year award, the most recent being in 2017 in Morningstar’s Allocation / Alternatives category. He is a member of the prestigious Barron’s Roundtable and the author of a book titled Capital Allocation. In 2022 we devoted a show to the book and the topic which you can watch on WEALTHTRACK.COM.

Unfortunately, Capital Appreciation Fund has been closed to new investors since 2014 due to capacity restraints but Giroux manages two other funds that are open: the T. Rowe Price Capital Appreciation Equity ETF and a just announced new fund, the T. Rowe Price Capital Appreciation and Income Fund, which as its name implies is more focused on income.  

In this weekend’s episode, Giroux discusses his contrarian investment strategies for 2024 and why understanding the impact AI has on companies is now such an important focus of his team’s research.
