Nasdaq ends higher as AI heavyweights rebound ahead of midterm results

It was a day of buying the dip as both tech indexes did rather well. Ahead of election results, investors decided it was time to take on more risk. The only loser was Apple which, despite beating estimates, dropped 1.9% on its announcement that the price of chips would likely continue to rise which would impact their holiday profit margins. Chip makers Micron and Nvidia did however rise, 2.6% and 2.3% respectively, as well as the broader chip index. Go figure.

The Nasdaq remains 10% below its record high October 6th and the S&P 3% down but also 10% up for the year. And as is usually the case, whenever tech has a good day it’s almost always because monies are being moved out of industrials and that was evident with the Dow today that spent the whole day in the red but like a rollercoaster and closing down almost exactly the amount the Nasdaq closed up. Election uncertainty was also on display as volume came in below the 17.4 average, closing at 16.6 billion.
