After last week’s drubbing, the markets went into high gear today with the price of crude dropping below the psychologically important $100/barrel mark and yields dropping below the psychologically important 5% mark. The Nasdaq marked its first record since its all-time high June 2nd and the S&P closed within a whisper of its August 13th record. New data suggesting that AI spending is expanding despite recent warnings sent tech way up.
There were strong advances in Intel and AMD and the chip index soared 4.3%. Also lending optimism was progress in the war with China voluntarily interceding in negotiations with Iran as Iran prez will be joining the UN General Assembly this week and Trump may even be agreeing to a meeting at that time. The big headwinds of oil and the 10-year yield have now turned into tailwinds. At 16.5 billion, volume came in just a nudge above the 16.2 average.
