Wall Street ends down as oil prices, Treasury yields rise
Wed September 23, 2026
Iran’s president fired back at Trump hard at the UN vowing “never surrender” and immediately sent price of oil soaring again, the 10-year Treasury going above 5% again, the highest since 2007 (and now flirting with the dreaded 6%), Nvidia dropping 1.5% and the chip index itself 1.2%. Clearly, the market wants an end to this war. Clearly, the market isn’t going to get it.
The S&P was within 0.4% of its record on Monday and that slipped today to within 2%. Business activity jumping to a five year high also created more nerves about another rate hike in October, now priced at 71% odds, up from 54.5% last Friday. All three indexes took another major dive that lasted all day with volume at 17.0 billion, a notch above the 16.5 average.
